AI Is No Marketing Gimmick!

Anyone who still believes today that a bit of casual ChatGPT tinkering is enough to stay future-proof could be in for a rude awakening very soon. Artificial intelligence has long since moved beyond being a nice extra and is now changing the entire set of rules in the agency market.

Platforms like Meta and Google are actively working to make traditional service providers obsolete, while AI tools become more powerful month after month. Whether your business model will come under pressure is already settled, and the only open question is when it will happen.

It is high time to set a new course. This is not marketing FOMO!

Intelligent meeting automation from transcript to task: As soon as Fireflies has transcribed a meeting, the text is automatically prepared and summarized by an AI. Relevant action items are extracted in a structured way and created directly as tasks, while a compact summary is posted to the team’s Slack. This way, no outcomes get lost and follow-ups start without any manual effort.

The Market Is Turning, and It Is Turning Against Traditional Agencies

The signs point to a storm, because what was a unique selling point yesterday may be handled by software tomorrow, faster, cheaper, and around the clock.

Many agency owners keep hearing the same advice out there, which is to increase the pace. If the reports stop delivering results, the answer is to produce even more of them. If that isn’t enough, paid ads get added on top. If the market becomes tougher, the advice is to make even more calls and push for even more reach and even more pressure. Admittedly, that worked in the past. But let’s be honest: if you already have to work twice as hard as last year just to maintain the same level, do you really believe this will improve on its own?

That is very unlikely. In all probability, next year you will have to deliver three times as much just to cover your fixed costs, and that is not a sustainable model.

The Copywriting Example: The Myth of the Irreplaceable Skill

For a long time, the common wisdom was: “Good copywriters have nothing to fear. AI can’t recognize emotions and doesn’t understand the target audience.” Those days are over. Copywriters as they have existed over the past few years will soon no longer exist in that form.

Automated workflow for highly personalized email outreach based on social media insights. The system scans recent LinkedIn posts from people and companies, checks their availability, and uses AI to generate individually tailored messages from them. All results are stored in a structured format in Google Sheets and can be used immediately for outbound campaigns.

And even if you are still better than an AI today, the real problem lies elsewhere, because the market dynamics have already changed. A few years ago, there were only a handful of truly good copywriters, and as a company you either had a top writer or none at all. Today, everyone has access to a solid AI copywriter that is practically free, available at any time, and better every month. That shifts the entire balance of supply and demand. Your lead is melting away even though your own skills have not declined, simply because demand is moving elsewhere.

And this applies to far more than copywriting. Media buying, recruiting, graphic design, and even automation and process optimization are all seeing the playing field change right now.

Learning from Blockbuster: Those Who Fall Behind Disappear

Do you still remember Blockbuster? Today it is just a word for a great movie, but back then it was an empire, until the company lost touch with the internet. The lesson is that you get replaced once your offering in its current form is no longer needed, regardless of how good you are at what you do.

The Three Levels of AI Readiness: Where Do You Stand?

To hold your ground in this new reality, knowing a few prompts or wildly building custom agents won’t be enough. Agencies currently find themselves on one of three levels, and only the top level secures your survival.

Level 1: AI as a Tool

This is where you find those who believe their skill alone is enough. Their thinking goes: “As long as I’m in the top 1% and better than AI, I’m safe.” They use ChatGPT here and there for support, but at its core, everything stays the same.

The problem is that these people will eventually have the ground pulled out from under their feet. They will be replaced entirely because they ignored the shift in the market, however skilled they may be.

Level 2: AI as an Efficiency Booster

One step higher are those who supplement their existing agency with AI. They replace employees with tools, automate processes, and work more efficiently, yet they hold on to the old business model.

The problem is that while this works in the short term, those who stay on Level 2 will still lose everything in the medium term. The rules of the game have changed, and efficiency alone is no longer enough.

Level 3: AI as a Strategic Game Changer

At the top level are those who have understood that the change goes far beyond replacing individual skills, because the entire market is shifting. They recognize that as supply changes, demand changes along with it. They understand the technology as well as the market movements it sets in motion, and they develop a sense of where the industry is heading so they can position themselves accordingly.

When the rules of the game change, you cannot cling to the offerings of the past. You need to rethink your business model.

The Blueprint: How to Become AI-Ready

So how do you get to Level 3? It takes four decisive steps.

1. Develop a Deep Understanding of the New Playing Field

You need to truly understand the technology, meaning how it works and where it can be applied, while the mathematics behind the models can stay in the background. What are large language models? How do they differ from other forms of AI? How can you use different models smartly? Why is voice AI becoming an ever bigger trend in 2026?

Only with this understanding can you assess what comes next, and the next big update will no longer catch you off guard.

Results are automatically created in HubSpot as contacts, tasks, or deals and additionally reported via email. This way, insights from communication and calls flow directly into structured sales processes.

Looking for inspiration? Ray Kurzweil, one of the few people who precisely predicted the AI wave decades in advance, began collecting all of his late father’s documents and belongings back in the 1960s, because he knew it would become possible in the 2030s or 2040s to create a digital copy of him. He foresaw the internet, search engines, smartphones, and the rise of AI long before any of them became reality. His books, such as The Age of Spiritual Machines and The Singularity Is Nearer, are worth their weight in gold if you want to understand where the journey is heading.

2. Build a Culture That Embraces AI

If everything depends on you alone, you are limited. Your team needs to be curious, eager to experiment, and open to new tools, because your employees handle detailed work every day that you may no longer have in view. When everyone in your company drives AI forward in their own area, you automatically stay on the pulse of the times.

3. Build an AI Brain

Context is king, because AI is only as good as the information available to it. An AI copywriter can master every technique in the world, yet without information about the target audience, its problems, and its language, the copy will fall flat.

You need a metaphorical brain for your AI activities, made up of structured databases, documented processes, and collected insights. With maximum context, AI delivers maximum results.

4. Stay at the Forefront

You need to know what is happening in the AI market right now. Which tools are other agencies using, which use cases are working, what is currently being experimented with, and what is coming next?

You can’t manage that on your own. You need a community, an environment in which you regularly receive valuable input, can exchange ideas with others, and gain new perspectives.

Conclusion: AI Has Become the New Foundation

AI goes far beyond being just another tool. It is a foundational technology, comparable to the internet or the computer, and your agency needs to be rethought from the ground up on this foundation rather than merely adapted or supported by it.

Anyone who keeps waiting now will fall behind. Anyone who sees AI purely as an efficiency tool will be better off in the short term and will still fail in the long run. Only those who understand the game, anticipate the market shift, and strategically reposition their business model will survive in the coming years and go on to flourish.

Your takeaway: start engaging seriously with the technology today by reading, learning, and experimenting. Build a culture in which innovation is welcome, and surround yourself with people who take the game as seriously as you do. The future belongs to those who think smarter, far more than to those who simply work harder.

Conclusion

Agencies that treat AI as a foundational technology and rebuild their business models around it will be the ones that thrive as the market continues to shift. The path to that position runs through a deep understanding of the technology, a team culture that welcomes experimentation, a well-structured AI system, and a community that keeps you at the forefront. Owners who start this work today give themselves the time to adapt deliberately, while those who wait risk being overtaken by changes that are already underway. The agency market of the coming years will reward clear strategic thinking far more than sheer effort.
